During our NCL Pride of America cruise, we had two very different days to explore Hawaii’s Big Island. First, we headed out from Hilo on a guided tour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, wondering whether this popular Big Island volcano excursion would truly be worth our limited time on the island… or leave us wishing we had explored on our own.
But our Big Island adventure didn’t end there.
After the ship carried us around the island to Kona, we stepped away from the waterfront and made our own way into the heart of Kona coffee country. At Greenwell Farms, we joined a Kona coffee farm tour to see how authentic Kona coffee is grown and processed—and, of course, sample a few different varieties along the way.
From volcanic landscapes to coffee fields, these two days showed us completely different sides of the Big Island. Did the volcano tour live up to our expectations, and which experience surprised us the most?
