November 17th was National Take A Hike Day! Of course, being the avid hikers that we are, we couldn't miss out on an excuse to get out on the trail! It seemed like fate wanted to keep us from hiking that day. One trail was closed due to flooding, and the roads to two others were closed as well. Fortunately we had a nearby backup plan at the Rocky Ford Fishing Access area of Tuttle Creek State Park. The Western Heritage Trail is a paved trail that runs along the scenic Big Blue River as it flows into Manhattan, KS. During the fall and winter months it is common to spot Bald Eagles as they fly above the river in search of fish. It is the perfect trail for a November afternoon hike!
