The Summer of 2015. The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada housed the debut night of the Cobblestone Combat Association. Titled First Bloodstone, its opening card featured the first round of an eight-man tournament to crown our first CCA Openweight Champion. This card was highlighted by two matches with similar storylines and results, showcasing the purpose of this prize. The belief that any man can defeat anyone regardless of size. In the main event, William Burk stepped into the ring with a man literally twice his size in the 300 lb. Tyrone Diggins, weathered the storm of a beating by Diggins, and was victorious with an uppercut in the fourth round to advance.
But earlier that night, an angry Tijuana middleweight by the name of Eduardo “El Terrible” Arellano found himself across the ring from the heavyweight cocky Crystal King, Jewell Rowley. Giving up near 70 pounds to the Portland pugilist, an uphill climb was clear as day for Eduardo after taking vicious knockdowns early on in the bout. Rather than weather, Arellano swung away towards the eye of the storm with the intent of giving it a shiner. In the fourth round, the City of Sin was stunned as Rowley was defeated! Arellano went on to break the jaw of one Callisto Capitani and defeat fellow middleweight in the aforementioned Irish Hammer Burk en route to winning the tournament and becoming our first-ever Openweight Champion. Not to be deterred, Jewell bounced back with a victory over Quentin Erickson at CCA 2: Stael Malut, and a win over Satoshi Hakubi at Pound 4 Pound to become the inaugural Heavyweight Champion of The World.
Following CCA 6, and a successful defense of his Heavyweight crown against Jose Maria de las Acostas Mercedes (so help me God, if I botched that name again) it was clear what fight has to be done. In the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois, on the biggest weekend of the year in the Armbar Error Society, The Crystal King risks his heavyweight throne for the biggest conquest a combatant on the cobblestone can acquire. A rematch near two and a half years in the making with one of the grandest prizes in combat sports today! For 22 months, El Terrible rested atop the mountain as Emperor of all the combatants awaiting someone to challenge for his title. Rowley is out to remedy the one blemish of his bare-knuckle boxing career.
In the United Center, will Crystal fists capture the Platinum Prize, or will Arellano‘s reign remain undisputed? We shall see in the second city.
