We’re celebrating #NationalBilbyDay with five fun facts about Bilbies:

🌱 Bilbies are ecosystem engineers – turning over 20,000kg of soil per year

🏠 They dig a new burrow every few weeks (often used by other native animals)

🌌 Bilbies are nocturnal, emerging after dark to forage for food

💧 They don’t need to drink water as they get enough moisture from their food. This adaptation makes them very successful in Australia’s arid bioregions

👓 They have poor eyesight and rely on good hearing and a keen sense of smell
