NASA's Artemis 3 mission continues to take shape as the hardware and the crew aim towards launch in mid-2027.
On June 9, the agency revealed the crew who will fly the roughly two-week mission in low Earth orbit onboard the Orion spacecraft:
• Commander Randy Bresnik (NASA)
• Pilot Luca Parmitano (European Space Agency / ESA)
• Mission Specialist Frank Rubio (NASA)
• Mission Specialist Andre Douglas (NASA)
The mission itself is also getting more definition. NASA offered new details about the timeline for the launches of Blue Origin's Blue Moon pathfinder and SpaceX's Starship Version 3 with a docking adapter, both of which will link up with Orion.
Spaceflight Now spoke with experts across the Artemis 3 mission, from NASA centers, like the Kennedy Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center, as well as with industry players, like Axiom Space and Lockheed Martin, to learn as much as possible about Artemis 3 and how the hardware is coming together for this dynamic, multi-launch mission.
