We are now getting a nice view of planet Venus through the LASCO C3 instrument on NASA/ESA's SOHO spacecraft. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has two coronagraphs onboard.
With coronagraphs, the Sun is being blocked by an occulting disk, seen here in blue, so that SOHO can observe the much fainter features in the Sun's corona. The actual size of the Sun is represented by the white disk.
In this video here you can see Planet Mercury moving towards the edge of the frame while Venus is moving into the frame and towards the Sun. In just a few days Venus will disappear behind that occulting disk and NASA SDO will pick up the Venus transit on June 5/6.
