NASA and partners Reliable Robotics and Collins Aerospace conducted test flights in November 2024 to collect data that will help introduce the use of remote pilots in the future. A specially equipped Cessna 208 Caravan was flown above Hollister, California, by a remote pilot while carrying a safety pilot on board. The data will be analyzed to develop systems and procedures that the Federal Aviation Administration could utilize to integrate remotely piloted flights into the national airspace.
