Welcome digital comrades to the first faculty reading of Naropa's 2024 Summer Writing Program season. This marks the 50th anniversary of Naropa's "100 Year Project".
Reading this evening, 13 June 2024, will be:
CHRIS PUSATERI was born in Ohio and has lived in London, Mexico City and Kingston, Jamaica. He is the author of several books and chapbooks of poetry, most recently Molecularity (Dusie, 2011) and Anon (BlazeVOX, 2008). His poetry and critical prose has appeared in American Letters & Commentary, Boston Review, Chicago Review, Jacket and Verse, among others. A librarian by profession, he resides in Denver.
CARRIE LORIG is a school psychologist and a poet. She is the author of The Pulp vs. The Throne(Artifice Books) and several chapbooks, including The Blood Barn (Inside the Castle), The Book of Repulsive Women (Essay Press), and NODS. (Magic Helicopter Press). She is currently a doctoral student in School Psychology at Georgia State University.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, MICHELLE NAKA PIERCE is the author of Continuous Frieze Bordering Red (2012), She, a Blueprint (2011), Beloved Integer (2007), and TRI/VIA (2003), among others. She earned a BA and an MA from the University of New Mexico and an MFA from Naropa University. Continuous Frieze Bordering Red explores identity, migration, and boundaries. Pierce has received numerous awards, including a Poets Out Loud Editor’s Prize, a Ted Berrigan Poetry Award, an Aimee Grunberger Memorial Award, and a Blue Mesa Review poetry award. Pierce edits Something on Paper, an online poetics and multimedia journal. She teaches at and serves as dean of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University. Pierce lives with the poet Chris Pusateri outside of Boulder, Colorado.
JULIE CARR is the author of ten books of poetry and prose, including Real Life: An Installation (Omindawn 2018), Objects from a Borrowed Confession (Ahsahta, 2017), and Someone Shot my Book (University of Michigan Press, 2018). Earlier books include 100 Notes on Violence (Ahsahta, 2010), RAG (Omnidawn, 2014), and Think Tank (Solid Objects, 2015). She is also the author of the critical study of Victorian poetry, Surface Tension: Ruptural Time and the Poetics of Desire in Late Victorian Poetry (Dalkey Archive, 2014). With Jeffrey Robinson, she is the coeditor of Active Romanticism (University of Alabama Press, 2015). Her co-translation of Leslie Kaplan’s Excess-The Factory was published by Commune Editions in 2018. A former NEA fellow, Carr is a professor at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She has collaborated with dance artists K.J. Holmes and Gesel Mason. With Tim Roberts she is the co-founder of Counterpath Press, Counterpath Gallery, and Counterpath Community Garden in Denver.
