Like Namor the sub-mariner, you can defy gravity with a simple glass of water. For the water to fall out of the glass, the volume of air trapped inside the glass must expand or more air has to come in. If you prevent more air from coming in, the volume of gas inside stays the same, so the water cannot fall. This experiment won't work if the glass is full.
