I’m back on the NAMM 2026 show floor, and this time I step into a beautiful piano room to explore something truly special: a 280,000 USD concert grand piano that also works as a high-resolution MIDI controller.
Together with Oliver from C. Bechstein, we dive into Bechstein Connect — a system that turns any acoustic piano into a deeply expressive MIDI instrument, without touching or modifying the piano itself. Using ultra-high-resolution sensors and Bluetooth MIDI, the piano can control synths, plugins, and virtual instruments with incredible precision.
We explore how an acoustic piano can trigger synthesizers, drum machines, and software instruments, including Pianoteq, while preserving the natural feel and dynamics of the instrument. This is about connecting the traditional piano world with modern music technology in a way that actually makes musical sense.

- Turning an acoustic piano into a MIDI controller
- High-resolution velocity (far beyond 127 steps)
- Polyphonic aftertouch on an acoustic piano
