Anna Kamyshan's Nabatele hovers on a suspended rock above Venice's Arsenale Nord, a Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Held aloft by a double-membrane helium balloon, the floating synagogue reworks the confined, upper-floor synagogues of 16th-century Venice into an open, airborne temple — a structure built around the idea of Yiddishland, a homeland made of memory rather than territory.
