With support from an ANA grant, the Choctaw Tribal Language Program partnered with the Choctaw Department of Schools to develop the Chahta Anno̱pa Isht Áyikhana I̱ Hina Oshi language curriculum. Initial brainstorming resulted in a visual map connecting cultural themes with MBCI communities. These characters emerged from a vision of a war pony truck driving the learners around to the different communities and having a relatable character teach the children the language following a specific cultural theme. Many community members helped create these characters right down to choosing names related to the animal or the theme the character would be teaching. It is the aim of the Choctaw Language Program to support language learners and give them the confidence to know they can learn and speak the Choctaw language.
