How do you anchor a shed? With American Earth Anchors of Course U Do It 2024-03-29 | My first question in our latest windstorm was "How do you anchor a shed?" I did some research on how to tie down a shed. And, I determined for my shed that this would be best with American Earth Anchors. American Earth Anchors offer an 18-inch Penetrator anchor earth screw made of solid aluminum with a 1-inch hex head for installation with a torque wrench. This Penetrator anchor has an impressive strength rating of 2,500 lbs. I'm always curious about product specifications. I'm confident that four of these with one installed in each corner would hold our shed in a heavy wind storm. If all forces were equal then that would be almost 10,000 lbs of holding strength. Since wind gusts come in many different directions, this is probably derated. I'm using the Neewer 9.8-inch adjustable magic arm with a super clamp. It is also known as an articulating arm. I recently reviewed a hedge trimmer (video will be released soon) and I strive for the best POV (point of view) for the viewer. I show you just how I did that.Usually, when editing my videos I am saddened that I wasn't more intentional in my camera angles. Sometimes I get in the way of the camera. Other times the camera is too far away. I called an audible 3/4 of the way through recording my hedge trimmer review. I decided to use a camera angle held in place with the articulating arm that I just purchased.Watching a hedge trimmer in action from afar is useful to an extent. But, what if I brought the viewer close to the blade cutting the foliage? That's exactly what I do in this video. The Neewer articulating arm is capable of holding 4.4 lbs fully extended. UDoIt Reviews the Biusine cordless chainsaw kit U Do It 2024-03-20 | In this video, UDoIt Reviews the Biusine cordless chainsaw kit. The saw features a 14-inch blade and includes two 21V 6Ahr batteries, a charger with a European plug adapter, two 14-inch chains, a user guide, and a tool for installing and removing the chain. The user guide does not provide a lot of help for assembly. I try not to read the user guide, anyway. However, for those who are using a chainsaw for the first time, my video will provide more help than the supplied user guide.Please note that this is for demonstration purposes only. You are responsible for your own safety and safe operation. Please refer to the included safety instructions. Safety is a mindset and should be applied all the time.The battery charger supplied with my unit came with a European-style plug. The manufacturer indicated that this should not be the case when ordered. I have similar units, which use the same 21V batteries. I was able to use the charger for these batteries. Please note, that this is against the recommendation within the user guide. So please only use the battery charger supplied with the unit. If your unit did not come complete with the correct charger adapter, contact the manufacturer and they will supply you with the correct adapter.When I initially assembled the chainsaw, I had difficulty installing the cover. I eventually learned that it was due to the tensioner (barrel nut) that was not in the correct position. Inspecting the area where the wood chips are ejected, you can observe the tensioner and its relative position to the receiving hole within the bar. Once lined up it clicks into place with moderate force as demonstrated. You can attach the flanged nuts to hold the cover in place but you need to properly set the tension before torquing them down. Setting the tension of the chain is easy through a quick observation. As the chainsaw is resting level on your work surface, verify that the chain is not sagging in the middle of the bar. It should be very close to the bar. However, if you lightly tug on the chain of the underside of the bar and pull it you should notice a little slack in the chain. This is expected. So, adjust the tension accordingly. Please note that a chain that has high tension will exert excessive force on the sprocket and motor shaft. This can result in excessive wear to the motor, electronics, and the sprocket at the end of the bar. And too loose of a chain can result in the chain flying off the bar.Once your tension is set correctly, you can fill the reservoir with bar and chain oil. In the video, I use Toro bar and chain oil. Use the brand of oil you are happiest with but appropriate for a 14-inch chainsaw. Secure the oil cap in place and install the battery. You are now ready to begin cutting away.I began cutting but not really. The saw wasn't digging into the wood. It was at that moment that I realized the chain was installed backward. It was an oversight I had during the installation. The teeth of the chain on the top of the bar must point away from the saw. The teeth dig into the wood and chip away at it. If the chain is installed backward, it will not dig into the wood. And if you continue to operate the saw in this manner for an extended time it can damage the saw. Do you know where your nuts are? U Do It 2024-03-12 | In this video, you will learn how to improve your workshop flow by labeling things. There's nothing worse than interrupting your flow to find the nuts and bolts you need for your project. Only to spend more time looking for them than doing the real work. We all know about labeling. But, did we label things? For the most part, I know where things are in my shop. But, I have several Ridgid Tools small parts organizers that I stack very high. They aren't labeled and when I find one I often don't put them back in the same order. I know I have one that is dedicated to 1/4-20 nuts, bolts, and washers. However, trying to find it can sometimes require me removing each one only to find it was the bottom one. If they are labeled, I might have to remove each one to get to the bottom one. One was broken and had an electrical cord with a 3-prong plug. The other was a salvaged lighting fixture permanently installed in an office and professionally removed by an electrician. Blaise needs me to remove the electrical cord from the broken one and install it within the other fixture. The camera features a 192x192 resolution and a temperature range of -4 to 1022 degrees Fahrenheit. A button is on the front of the handle, which can be used for image capture to the built-in memory on the camera. But, it can also be used to turn on the laser pointer. There is a menu option to disable the laser, as you would not want that on if you are scanning people or pets. These important options include the Units, Emissivity, Distance, and Temperature Range. Units allow you to select F, C, or K temperature scales.Emissivity is a setting used to match the object being scanned. There are several emissivity preset choices, including brick, soil, and human skin. But, if you can't find the item you can enter a custom emissivity value.Distance is how far the item being scanned is from the thermal camera. As you may know light decreases exponentially the further away you are from the source. This setting helps to compensate for that.Temperature Range is the setting for the range. You can select Auto Switch, -4 to 302 degrees Fahrenheit, or 212 to 1022 degrees Fahrenheit. I found that Auto Switch will provide you with the appropriate temperature range but it takes some time to switch. Selecting the temperature range manually is probably the better choice. Easy Fix for Compressor not Building Pressure OL195 Pump U Do It 2024-02-23 | If your compressor is not building pressure it could be because of a faulty valve plate or piston ring. Of course, there could be other reasons, but this is what I found in my case. In this video, I show you how I diagnose my Husky pancake compressor problems and fix them. The compressor pump on this unit is model number OL195. It is used in some Husky, Stanley, and Bostitch models and possibly others. The model number is clearly imprinted on the pump for easy identification.Many oil-less air compressor pumps are built with a motor that spins a flywheel, which has a connecting rod and piston assembly that pushes air through a cylinder. This compressed air feeds into a valve plate and pump head. This assembly supplies air into the compressor through a check valve, which prevents the compressor from losing air through the pump head. The compressor pump is controlled by a pressure switch with built-in hysteresis. The hysteresis could be set for 25 psi with a max pressure of 125 psi. This would mean that the pump will kick on at 100 psi and turn off around 125 psi. But, what if the pump never shuts off? That's why compressors are supplied with pressure relief valves to trip at a higher pressure, like 150 psi. The particular problem with my pump is that it builds up pressure to around 45 psi but doesn't exceed it. The compressor doesn't lose pressure, which means that the check valve is ok and all hoses beyond the check valve are good. The problem could be within my pump itself. Another problem is that the pump never shuts off since it isn't achieving the maximum pressure of 125 psi. This could result in damage to the pump and motor and could possibly create a fire hazard from overheating.Now that I built a shed, I'm cleaning up my garage and moving stuff into the shed. After rediscovering this old compressor that I had sitting I remembered that I had intentions of fixing it. That's why we are here. I have since purchased a replacement compressor that performs much better. But, it's nice to have this old one as a spare. And I enjoy restoring equipment that can be fixed without spending too much money.The parts diagram for your compressor and pump is almost surely available online. The OL195 diagram is available on several websites where you can order replacement parts. The model OL195 pump on my compressor was assembled using the single valve plate. I upgraded to the double valve plate, which also required replacing the connecting rod cap for the piston. The double valve plate kit part number is AB-9429999. I was able to purchase this compactor and use it to level the ground on my schedule. And, what is not shown in this video is the numerous times that I used it on the same project months later. For me to do this with a rental, I would have to revisit the rental company multiple times. The compactor itself is quite heavy. It is listed as weighing 126 pounds. This makes it a little difficult to maneuver alone. But, I was able to get it into place and unbox it. The packaging was done well I thought and had a combination of plywood and dense cardboard to secure it in the box. The assembly was fairly simple following the directions. Using a telescoping plank and trestles for working on my shed roof U Do It 2024-01-02 | In this video, I'm unboxing, setting up, and using a telescoping plank and trestles for working on my shed roof. I'm using my Little Giant Ladders as trestles to hold the Vevor Telescoping Plank. With this combination, I feel very confident walking about the plank.The roof of my shed is 218 inches wide and I need something economical and functionally safe. I need to be able to safely work along the width of the shed by walking along the plank. The plank will also serve as a staging area for tools and materials that are needed to work on the roof.The Vevor Telescoping Plank supports 440 pounds and can extend from its shortest of 9 feet to its longest of 15 feet. The plank is constructed of tubular aluminum and is very light to pick up and position into place. The plank does deflect some as you walk across it, which is expected. It took me a little while to get used to this. Using a roofing nailer to install drip edge on a shed roof U Do It 2023-12-23 | In this video, I unbox and demonstrate using a roofing nailer to install drip edge on a shed roof that I'm in the process of building. I purchased the WEN Roofing Nailer so I could complete my shed roof on my own.The WEN Roofing Nailer, which is model number WEN 61783, is shipped with a carrying case, goggles, an oiler, and the necessary hex keys to make adjustments as required. I'm using Grip Right 1 1/4" coil roofing nails that are 11 gauge, which is compatible with this nailer. I originally purchased these nails for building my original shed at our last property. That shed is a 12 x 16-foot shed with a gambrel roof that stands 16 feet tall.The purpose of a drip edge on a roof is to provide a way to divert water away from the roof line. Otherwise, water would make its way back under the shingles and underlayment. There are differing opinions about the order of ice and water shield, underlayment, and drip edge. The order is sometimes determined by the construction code in a particular region based on predominant weather conditions. For our area in New Jersey, we receive an average of 20+ inches of snow a year. I'm applying the drip edge first then the underlayment along the roof edge. Along the rake edge, underlayment is installed first followed by the drip edge. I chose not to install ice and water shield.The fascia will be installed under the drip edge. Therefore, it is important to leave a small gap under the drip edge. I built a ridge beam and its uneven - using the DeWalt DCP580 U Do It 2023-12-14 | I built a ridge beam and it's uneven and I need a way to make it even. I have a hand planer but I always wanted a power planer. So I'm using this DeWalt DCP580 power planer that I purchased to make the job easier. This planer features a 3 1/4 of an inch wide cut with a 1/256th of an inch incremental cutting depth adjustment up to a maximum of 2mm depth per cut. I set the depth to the smallest amount.The ridge beam is fabricated from two 2x8x12s and two 2x8x8s to form a 20-foot span for my 12x16 shed. The final span will be 218.5 inches after the excess is cut off once the beam is in place. I cut the top side of the ridge beam to 15 degrees, which is what my shed plans specified. When the beam was fabricated I ensured that the beveled side was perfectly aligned. This resulted in the bottom side being out of alignment by approximately 1/8th of an inch. There are two points that the ridge beam rests on, which are the front and back supports. Other than these two resting points the rest of the bottom of the beam is irrelevant. I needed a way to flatten the bottom side at these two points of the ridge beam. My pressure washer is leaking gas and how I fixed it U Do It 2023-11-21 | My pressure washer is leaking gas as soon as I filled the tank. Every season I expect not to be able to start my Troy-Bilt pressure washer because of issues as a result of old gas and corrosion of the carburetor. I was prepared to make the fix that I do every season, which is to clean the ports in the bowl nut. All I wanted to do was clean my driveway with a new pressure washer surface cleaner I purchased. As you can see in the video it was leaking by the carburetor. My guess is that the o-ring gasket around the bowl or the small gasket around the bowl nut failed. Rather than investigate that issue I decided to purchase a replacement carburetor. I had already removed the original carburetor in preparation for this.Once I installed the carburetor and put a little gas in the tank it started right up after a few pull starts. Laying out rebar pins for shed and capping them for safety U Do It 2023-05-10 | I'm laying out rebar pins that are parallel to our house so the layout of our shed will be square with it. I placed two pins along the back of the house that are spaced 207 inches apart. I want to create reference pins that are exactly 207 inches apart but 320 inches away from the back of the house. Using my Craftsman Construction Calculator I was able to determine the diagonal for the rectangle which is 207 inches by 320 inches. The calculator allows you to enter Rise, Run, and then press the Diag function to calculate the diagonal. It calculated 381 1/8 inches.I have a 35-foot Stanely tape measure and a 100' Kobalt tape measure. I was able to tape the end of the 35' tape measure to the one piece of rebar. Then I noticed the Kobalt has a loop at the end for you to place it over 1/2 inch rebar. I wasn't aware this tape measure had this feature so that made things easier for me once I discovered it. Last year around this time I applied Scotts Turf Builder Weed and Feed, which feeds the lawn, and provides weed control. We're seeing a much bigger difference with our lawn this year thanks to Scotts Triple Action. I applied the fertilizer using the Scotts Turf Builder with EdgeGaurd DLX broadcast spreader. This spreader offers wide dispersal for good coverage and overlap. This spreader allows you to block the edge from being fertilized using EdgeGaurd. Outlet loses power when I plug something into it U Do It 2023-03-24 | My outlet loses power when I plug something into it and in this video I troubleshoot it. But first, here's a little history of our problem. One day in band camp Mrs U Do It plugged in our vacuum and began vacuuming. Then my computer shut off and I lost internet connection while in the middle of working. I surmised that this is from a loose wire. With no time to fix it at that moment, it was still an issue. It happened again a few weeks later under the same circumstances. Almost one month later I'm here to fix the problem. In this video, you'll see I remove the outlet and show the connections. I replaced the original outlet in 2016 with this new outlet. But, when I installed it I used the push-in connectors in the back of the outlet. In retrospect, I should have used the lugs. I remove the wires by inserting a small slotted screwdriver into the wire releases. My printer was very low on black ink. It was so low that the printer was no longer permitting the printer to print.Refilling the ink was quite easy as I demonstrate in this video. One concern is that you purchase the ink close to when you know you need it. That is of course unless there are supply chain issues that we have all come to know and love. Do you sense the sarcasm? And in that case, purchase a bottle or two extra, especially if you print a lot. In our case, we did not print a lot. It is used mainly for printing contracts and making copies of receipts. Fabricating fasteners using my Lincoln Electric 210MP Welder U Do It 2023-02-10 | This video shows you how I'm fabricating fasteners out of threaded rod and flange nuts with my Lincoln Electric 210MP welder. I decided on this path out of necessity since I was unwilling to spend $270 on bolts (I found 10 bolts for $90). See, I'm building a bed for our son and my plans call for 11-inch bolts. They will be counter-bored into cross members that are 12 inches tall and threaded into T-Nuts, which will also be counter-bored from the bottom. I visited my favorite metal supply shop in our area, which is Fazzio Steel. There I was able to pick up 5/16-18 threaded rods, flange nuts, T-Nuts, and washers. I also purchased a used chop saw that I was able to use to cut down the threaded rod. Protect your Cabinets with Drawer and Shelf Liner U Do It 2022-12-30 | I built this pantry cabinet for our kitchen to give Mrs U Do It more storage. So we want to know the best way how to protect kitchen cabinet shelves. We wanted to find a high-quality slip-resistant shelf liner to protect every shelf. Our cabinet is 24 inches deep and over 25 inches wide so I needed a wide shelf liner with over 10 feet for our five shelves. I found and purchased Gorilla Grip Premium Drawer & Shelf Liner which is 24 inches wide and 20 feet long. In this video, I show you how I cut the liner and how I install the shelf liner on each shelf of our pantry cabinet.Our pantry cabinet has 3 removable shelves and 2 fixed shelves. It was easiest to start with a removable shelf as a template. I removed everything from the shelf and placed the shelf on our kitchen table. Once I opened the shelf liner roll I was able to size it up, clamp it in place onto the shelf and cut it to length. I used my Stanley Utility Knife with a new blade to cut the shelf liner. As I cut I made sure that I rested the end of the utility knife on the shelf while allowing the blade to glide along the edge of the shelf. This cut the shelf liner to the exact width of the shelf. Clamping the liner to the shelf made this work much easier since the shelf liner was nearly immovable during cutting. I got a little fancy and cut around the magnetic latches that hold the door into place when closed. This door lever is finished in oil-rubbed bronze and features an interior lock for privacy.Our choice of the interior door was the two-panel with the curved top to give a more sophisticated look. Although you were able to get it started by cleaning the main jet in the carburetor it just wont stay running under demand. My problem was I had dirty fuel that sat in the tank for over two years without running. The contaminants in the fuel can clog up the carburetor, which will lead to the engine stalling under demand (using the pressure washer or having water pressure). How to make a crown molding return for the professional look U Do It 2022-10-07 | Your considering installing crown molding and you're not sure how to make a return for that professional look. In this video I demonstrate how to cut a crown molding return on a compound miter saw without using the bevel. What is a return? A return is also known as a molding end stop. A return is a way of making molding look like the end stops at the wall (or returns into the wall). For this cut I install the D1280X Diablo 80T Fine Finish blade on my DeWalt 12" Compound Miter Saw. I was able to use Jorgensen EZ-Hold clamps to create a point for the crown molding to rest against on the miter saw at the perfect spring angle. This allowed me to cut the crown molding only with the miter without the need to calculate and set the proper bevel angle.Why is this crown molding lower than the ceiling? I built it down lower so I can install lights in the crown molding as I did in this other video.
