![Space Harrier [Master System Longplay] - ROOK
Developer: Sega
Year Released: 1987
Given its popularity, its natural that Space Harrier would be ported to every possible platform. Unfortunately, given the advanced hardware of Segas bespoke Space Harrier arcade board, there was no home system at the time that could pull off the scaling effects necessary to replicate the sense of speed found in the original. Not only that, but the analog control needed to be ditched in favor of digital, which greatly alters the gameplay.
The first console port was to Segas own Master System. The pace had to be stifled quite a bit for the 8-bit machine to keep up, and the scrolling is much choppier. Still, the huge enemies manage to impress. For the most part, the enemies and levels are comparable to the arcade version. Sega added an additional final boss named Haya-Oh (named after Hayao Nakayama, the then-president of Sega) and a real ending - which is much better than the arcade version, which simply showed up a huge The End sign. Also hidden is the ability to play as a jet fighter and a secret message that urges players to write to Sega giving their opinions. - Hardcore Gaming 101 Space Harrier [Master System Longplay] - ROOK](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gwVghQ0DHwI/mqdefault.jpg)

![Strider [Genesis/Mega Drive Longplay] - ROOK
Developer: Capcom/Sega
Year Released: 1990
Difficulty: Normal
Strider is set in a dystopian future in the year 2048, where a mysterious dictator known as the Grandmaster rules over the world. Hiryu, the youngest ever Super A Ranked member of an organization of high-tech ninja agents known as the Striders, is alone tasked with the Grandmasters assassination. Hiryu begins his mission by infiltrating the Grandmasters capital at the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, a Federation referred as Eastern European which became the Imperial Capital of the Russian Empire by the year 2048.
Sega produced their home version of Strider for the Mega Drive/Genesis, which was released in Japan on September 29, 1990, with subsequent releases in North America and the PAL region. It was advertised as one of the first 8-Megabit cartridges for the system, and went on to be a bestseller.
