I'll show you how to use my free SVGs to make a t-shirt ruler guide out of cardstock or plastic.Which should you make? It depends on your different needs!If you make the paper version in premium quality cardstock like the kind in my material list, it will hold up for many uses. It might be easier to use if you have vision trouble since we'll draw the markings on top using a Cricut pen before cutting it on a StandardGrip mat.But if you might need to see the fabric's surface during alignment -- like if you're using a patterned shirt -- or plan to make A LOT of shirts, the chopping mat version is easier to make than you might think and extremely durable. It actually just takes a fine-point blade and StrongGrip mat!Once you've made a T-shirt ruler guide tool, how do you use it?The video shows you, but basically you place your T-shirt ruler on your vertically creased T-shirt. You don’t want it on the edge of the collar of the t-shirt, but on the seam. Then, place the top of the similarly creased design right at the bottom of the ruler (though sometimes it goes higher or lower, I'll show you in the video!). This is extra helpful if your design doesn't have a uniform top edge. So many of you have written to me to tell me you love my video animation sequence and want to make it yourself, and now you can! The original is very detailed -- it was designed digitally by my daughter Alexa and I last year using Adobe Illustrator and Blender. It represents all the things I love ... home, community, creativity, nature, and most of all, my family. That's Alexa and I in the swing there in the middle! We don't have this place in real life yet.... but we are looking for it! Now it's important to note this digital design can show intricate pixels much easier than Cricuts can cut paper, so I’ve simplified it just a bit. It’s still just as peaceful and makes me want to fall right in! We’ll also chat about how to handle all those intricate cuts and ways to light your paper cut scenes, too.These pre-designed paper cut light boxes are cool, but what if you want to change it up a little bit. There are SO many paper cut designs out there, but they will always be a little better if you can add a personal touch of your own.So I’m not only sharing the layered design, I’ll also show you how to customize a scene like this in Cricut Design Space. Then you can use the steps to add your own style to this design, or an entirely different design!And it gets better! If you don’t want to use a premade shadow box, I’ve designed one you can make out of cardstock. Once you have the steps down, you can make custom light boxes from scratch!The tools and materials are pretty simple, but it’s important to pick and prepare them well to get the best results. High-quality paper is very important, especially for the intricate cuts and structure of the frame. I used mostly Recollection cardstock and had great results.I recommend using a fresh LightGrip machine mat, that’s the blue one, for your layers. Use a brayer to adhere the cardstock really well. We do that in most projects, but that step REALLY helps when you’re cutting large cardstock designs with such intricate details. And make sure your fine-point blade is clean and free of little bits of paper or whatever. I’ll show you a trick to help keep it clean!I also recommend you have a scraper on hand to gently remove any leftover pieces right away after cutting. Tiny pieces stuck under the next piece can really mess up your cuts.And when it’s time to remove your delicate layers, you can use a spatula to gently release them from the mat. If some cutoffs are stuck, use tweezers to carefully pull them off. A weeding tool also helps poke out tiny bits. Cricut Update: New Layers Panel & Combine Menu | UNWELD & RENAME LAYERS! Jennifer Maker 2022-10-13 | I appreciate every subscriber. It's free and easy to subscribe -- just click here: http://bit.ly/sub2jenniferA new version of Cricut Design Space for Desktop – version 7.20 – is starting to roll out and there are several wonderful new features and important changes I want to show you, as they will change how you’re using the software for the better. These changes also impact my tutorials – specifically the location of Weld – and I want to be sure you know how to find it!The big change in this version is the Layers Panel – you can see how it looked before this version on the left side of the screen , and how it looks now on the right. First, let me reassure you that EVERYTHING is still here and nothing has been removed. Note that the icons are still here at the top, though they have been streamlined in the new version. The layers are all here, but you can now rename them, and the buttons at the bottom are there … you’ll note that Weld appears to be missing, and in its place there’s a Combine button. If you’re watching this video to figure out where Weld went, it’s right under the Combine button… but as you’ll see, there’s so much more there now, too.Let’s look closer at each change. First, the buttons above the Layers Panel – before we had four buttons: Group, Ungroup, Duplicate, and Delete. Now we have Group & Ungroup merged into one button, and Duplicate and Delete just like before. The labels are no longer underneath the buttons, presumably to make more room for something yet to come, so if you can’t remember which button is which, just hover your mouse over them and the label pops up!The Group button will darken when you have two or more layers selected, like this. And when you have a group selected, the button will change to Ungroup. I like this change – no need to have two buttons there when one will do.Below these buttons, in the Layers Panel itself, Cricut has added a feature that we’ve all been requesting for a long time – the ability to RENAME layers. To rename a layer, just double-click on a layer name and an edit box will appear that you can type right into. When you’re done renaming, just press the enter or return key on your keyboard, or click somewhere else on the Canvas. You can also rename a layer by right-clicking on it with your mouse or tapping on your trackpad with two fingers to access the drop-down menu and then just choose rename at the top.Now down at the bottom of the Layers Panel, we used to have Slice, Weld, Attach, Flatten, and Contour, and these are all the same except the new Combine menu is where Weld used to be. Note that these buttons will all appear “greyed out” and unclickable until we select at two layers on the canvas, like these layers in my new cake topper. Now we can see all the options. If we click once on Combine, we get a menu with new options – Weld is at the top, followed by four new functions – Unite, Subtract, Intersect, and Exclude. These are really special functions that I think you’re going to love. Functions like this are included in software like Adobe Illustrator, which I’ve been using for over 30 years, and I’m excited to see them come to Cricut Design Space! How to Print Then Cut on Cricut + Care Cards for Tumblers, Mugs, & Shirts! Jennifer Maker 2022-09-24 | Get the free care card designs at jennifermaker.com/cricut-projects-to-sellIf you've never used the Cricut Print Then Cut feature with your specific printer - or if it's been a while - calibrate your machine's settings before starting. It’s easy and worth the time to avoid surprises! Without calibration, your projects might not look right.But there’s an easy way to fix it!In a new Cricut Design Space window, click the three lines in the upper left corner, then select "Calibration."Select "Print Then Cut." Then, follow the prompts to select your printer and print a test sheet. These windows will look slightly different depending on your computer and printer.Then, place the test sheet on your blue LightGrip machine mat according to the prompts on the screen. Load it into your Cricut and cut the test design.Your Cricut will perform many straight cuts that may or may not line up with the coded lines. This will help you tell the Cricut if it needs to re-calibrate.Do NOT unload your mat until the Calibration test is complete.Answer the questions in Design Space about the cut results. Cricut Font Help! Wheres My Font in Design Space in the NEW UPDATE? 🆕 How to Find ALL Your Fonts! It's free and easy to subscribe -- just click here: http://bit.ly/sub2jenniferHave you ever lost your fonts in Cricut Design Space? If so, you’re not alone. And as a NEW Design Space update is rolling out for fonts, I thought this was a great opportunity to show you how to find your fonts in Cricut Design Space for Desktop!First, let’s take a look at the updated Fonts menu. To see it, let’s click on Text to add some text to this project. Once this Text box appears, you can start typing immediately to enter your text.To select a font, click on the Fonts menu right here in Design Space. By default, the Fonts menu shows you Cricut fonts, as indicated by the first tab on the left here. If you are trying to find your fonts installed on your computer, they will not show up in this first list, as it is ONLY Cricut fonts. To find your installed fonts, click on System right here. Under the System tab, you can scroll through the list – it’s in alphabetical order – but it’s faster to search for the font you want. For example, if I want to search for the font I designed – Maker Penwriting – I can type “Maker into the search bar and either click on this magnifying glass icon or simply press Return or Enter on my keyboard. My font pops up right away, and you can click it to select it. Your text changes instantly to your font. This font, by the way, is a single-line writing font based on my own handwriting. I made it to help me fill out Christmas present tags and cards using my Cricut. Your welcome to use it, too, and can get this writing font free on my blog at jennifermaker.com/writing-fontBut let’s take another look at the Font menu, because there’s more I want to show you. Let’s clear out this search by clicking the X and look closer at the Cricut fonts list, which again, is the default list. You can also scroll or search the Cricut font list. This is a very long list, so it can be hard to find the Cricut font you want. I have three big tips to help you find the font you need!First, uncheck the box next to “Kerned.” By default, the list will only show you kerned Cricut fonts – kerned fonts are awesome, but not all fonts are kerned and keeping that checkbox checked means you’re not seeing all the fonts. Kerned fonts mean the characters are spaced proportionally from one another, and they tend to look better. But there’s plenty of awesome fonts without kerning, too. So if you don’t see your font, click off “kerned” so you see everything!Second tip – use the Filters option over here on the right. Clicking this brings up the ability to filter by a variety of types, including Writing fonts – one of my favorites – and Free fonts. So when I click on “Free” I see all the free Cricut fonts available right now. You can also combine filters, so we can look for free writing fonts by checking both “Free” and “writing.” And when you’re done filtering, just click on “Clear All” to see everything again.Third tip — use the newly introduced Bookmarks feature! Whenever you see a font – whether it’s a Cricut font or a System font, you can click on this bookmark icon on the right side. Then click on the Bookmarks tab at the top here to see your favorite fonts. This is the solution for everyone who has ever lamented how long it takes to scroll the fonts list to find what they want. These shortcuts let you do things faster and easier, and I think of they as “cool keyboard and mouse tricks.” So I thought I’d show you a few of these Cricut Design Space Tips & Tricks – some I’ve been using for years, and some that are brand new with this update – to help you Cricut faster, too!Topics in this video:0:00 - New Cricut Design Space Update1:08 - Use Command (Mac) or Control (Windows)1:15 - Undo Shortcut1:25 - Copy Shortcut1:29 - Past Shortcut1:35 - Delete Shortcut1:52 - Scroll wheel on mouse2:28 - Arrow keys3:28 - Select All shortcut3:43 - Send Forward or Backward4:19 - Secret MenuSo here we are in Design Space version 7.12. And I'm going to rapidly copy and paste this word, "So cool" here, using the keyboard. Watch this, I copy it. And then I paste it. That fast! Using the keyboard can REALLY speed up your Design Space work. So let me show you a few simple tried-and-true tricks that you can use right away. Maybe you know these all ready, so if you do, I promise to show you some new ones at the end, too!First of all, we can undo everything we just did. And while we can just go up here and click the Undo icon, I can actually press Command or Control depending on which keyboard I have – Mac or Windows – along with the Z key. So Command Z or Control Z to undo all of those extra things. Just like this. There we go. I did all of that using my keyboard. And you can copy with Command C or Control C and you can paste it with Command V or Control V, just like this. And then you can delete it using the Delete key on the Mac or the Backspace key on Windows, just like this. This is SO much faster than looking for the right icon on your screen and moving over there to click it. You can also scroll your canvas using your mouse. So if you use the scroll wheel on your mouse, you can move up and down your canvas, just like this. And if you hold down the Shift key on either the Mac or Windows, you can scroll to the left and right, just like this. And again, you don’t have to come down here or over there to do this, which is normally what we’d have to do. So it’s faster!So again, it's just scrolling with the mouse wheel. Ahen if you hold down the Shift key, you can move left. And move right!Another thing I really love are the arrow keys on the keyboard. So for example, if you want to move this word "tricks" to the left or right, you can just use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move it left and right like this. And of course you can go up and down as well. This is so great because you can do this and keep things in line. Notice how it's staying on its plane as I move? When I use the left and right keys, and it's going up and down when I use the up and down keys. So what if you want to go just a little more? I hold down the Shift key as you do it! Now when you tap the up and down arrows on your keyboard, you can move by an inch at a time. We'll go from package to print to press. And you're going to be amazed at how easy this is to do! I have a brand new Epson EcoTank 4760 for this video, but what I'm going to show you should work for ANY Epson EcoTank printer, regardless of what model number it is. What matters is that it is an Epson EcoTank. It's also important that you start with a brand new Epson EcoTank and never put the regular inkjet ink that comes with it into the printer. You want a clean and unused Epson printer for this conversion process. While I believe it is possible to clean and convert an Epson EcoTank that's already had ink in it, I've never done it myself and so I'm not able to help you there.
