But as they get older, it seems Tod is putting more effort into their friendship than Copper is. This makes Tod scared and insecure, feeling that Copper is starting to not care about him. Still, Tod is always waiting for Copper to step it up and continues to do whatever he wants - constantly. And constantly, he is let down. Copper never seems to care anymore, and only uses Tod for emotional benefit.A confrontation leads to Copper finally admitting he doesn't consider Tod a friend anymore. Even then, Tod's heart is still waiting, patiently, for Copper to change his mind. This makes Tod grow bitter and resentful over time. So when Copper finally, FINALLY needs Tod's help when a bear attacks him and his owner ... Tod decides to do nothing. He's had enough.
