Myles Raven ('M.H.N.R.' — on the right in the thumbnail to this video) was a Latin master at Tormore School in Upper Deal. (After its closure, the school was burned down in an insurance job.) He was the younger brother of Simon Raven, the novelist and author of what were reputed by the boys of the school — they had of course never read them but had the right instincts — to be 'dirty books'. The brothers were dipsomaniac homosexuals, although in the case of Myles, there was, according to Simon Raven's biographer, little or no consummation where their shared inversion (learnt at Charterhouse) was concerned. The choleric Myles's real-rent boy, his real gigolo, his real he-whore, was ale, wine, port, whisky, brandy and other liquors, consumed at the Admiral Keppel pub, in his digs, in his Sunbeam Rapier when taking the prettier boys to watch Kent County Cricket Club perform at, say, Canterbury, in the school dining-room, and indeed in the classroom.
