Last week we spent a lot of time at Fitzgerald's getting our live music jones on. This week we visited Forest Park, home to the western suburb's newest music venue Robert's & Bobby's west & east sides. Which are two separate places but not really. The west side is a large space that handles the bigger acts. The east side is a cocktail bar that offers free music several times a week. They also have community events, boche ball, storytelling there's always something going on there.
What they lack is food beyond chips & popcorn but not to worry, there's a number of fine eating establishments nearby. Robert / Bobby's allows you to order delivery or bring food in. All in all a great place to spend an evening.
I spent two nights there last week,, seeing a total of five acts covering a broad musical spectrum. Thursday night featured the James Dean Joint and Barbra Clifford a couple of rock and roll bands. I'd seen Ms. Clifford before and found her to be very entertaining. The singer from JDJ reminded me a lot of the late Wesley Willis.
Saturday started at two with Riley & the Red Hots playing their brand of 1920's & 30's jazz. Then it was a short walk home for dinner followed by the 8:00 show featuring folk & country music. The folk we have here with the guy in the trucker hat. Sadly I had to leave right after he started so I never got his name and misssed Rachel Swain the country singer who rounded out the evenings entertainment.
The total cover charge I paid for all this was zero with no drink minimum. Now you can't beat that!
