Ways to make any pattern more "fancy": Consider the fabric. Using satin, sateen, sheer fabrics, or adding lace, sequins, overlays, organza, and go hard and extra on the details.
Remember, less is more, but be mindful in your choices. Have a vision in mind and keep the "extras" at a minimum. For instance, if you add lace and organza, you might use a more simple closure, button or invisible zip. If you are making a solid satin cocktail dress, consider adding detailed or ornate buttons for your closure instead of a zip.
