My Talk with a Hawk | Will Interviews Kevin Castley
What a fucking week. If you haven't been living under a rock since my last video, then you are aware of the war that is ongoing in Ukraine. If I am being honest with you guys, I’m not 100% how I feel about it other than I wish it wasn't happening and my thoughts are with the defenders in this instance, Ukraine.
I have been exposed to some interesting ideas as of late, specifically the difference between relative and universal ethics, the consent of the human body during conscription or when drafted, and the idea that waging war for democracy might be the only way to defend against global fascism.
It’s hard to wrap my head around some of these topics as someone who remembers vividly being in first grade watching footage of the Twin Towers collapsing and growing up with a war in the Middle East presented as a feature of growing up in the USA instead of a bug.
Just as confusing are my feelings as a 27 year adult man watching in horror as the United States left Afghanistan in late 2021. That month my apartment complex took in 7 refugee families free of charge that were airlifted straight out of Kabul. To put one of the men's opinions simply, he wished that America had stayed and that he was in the home that he grew up in.
These questions were already on my mind, but they have been amplified since my conversation with today's guest.
Today's video features one of my favorite streamers as well as twitch's favorite liberal hawk, Kevin Castley of Superpower Broadcasting.
Kevin has been one of these streamers I have been following for awhile, I saw him originally on the Hippy Dippy Debate panels doing something very intriguing.
In the same 3 or 4 hour time period, Castley would excellently defend a topic. Then the topic would change and he would find himself debating against every single person that agreed with him on the previous topic. If I had to describe Castley I would say that he definitely knows what his morals are and he is very conscious of how he frames the world stemming from these universal morals and ethics. And on top of that, he is willing to fight for his ideas, at least in the conversational space that has been afforded to him.
