In this episode of MY Story, we interviewed Aunty Tan Gui Zhu, who sells kites and dried seafood by the seaside.
She shared that it’s not easy for her to do business because there are many shops nearby, and the competition is tough. Other shops can sell a few ringgit cheaper since they handle the drying process themselves, but Aunty Tan has to get her products from suppliers. She said if she cannot even earn that extra one or two ringgit, then there would be no point in selling at all.
Still, she continues because she loves being there and enjoys what she does. Sometimes, she notices parents stopping their children from buying bubbles or small toys at her stall, but instead of turning them away, she simply gives the toys to the kids. A simple story, but one that reminds us of the heart and effort behind every small stall.
