I have heard many people say that when their parents or in-laws ask them why they don't want kids, and they say "because I don't like children, because I would be a terrible parent, because there is so much violence in the world, because they cost too much money, because they are a huge responsability, because people have kids for selfish reasons, because humans are destroying the planet, because I have other plans for my life", etc. their parents/in-laws say these are just silly excuses, and they are not good enough reasons not to have kids.
I think most people are selfish and they want to have the experience of being a grandparent, that they don't consider what is best for their kids or their future grandkids. Not because you enjoyed having kids means everyone else should feel the same way. I don't think parents should impose their will on their grown children.
In past generations, being a mother was the greatest thing a woman could experience, because that was pretty much the highest thing she could aspire to. Now days, a woman can be a scientist, a judge, the president of a country, she can travel the world, and all these things can bring her joy and satisfaction. Being a mother is just one experience of MANY.
I find it curious that parents are always saying they made sacrifices so their kids would go further than they did, but yet they want to see them stuck in the role of a parent. Being a parent is very limiting, so where is the progress? I ask myself, what was the benefit of having your daughter get a degree if she is going to end up like you: at home taking care of babies? And if you say that you can help her take care of them so she can work...this might benefit you because you will enjoy your grandkids but it will be unfare to the child because he will be away from his mother.
