I have been working with my aquariums for years as a therapy to find calm and create a nature I would like to be surrounded by since I was not able to tour with my music regularly for many years, it has been my peace and inspiration in my most recent dark times. I buy a lot of my jars and bowls from second hand shops and try to create a habitat that will stimulate my new compositions and the wildlife simultaneously. I enjoy making water bridges for the fish to be able to explore different shapes and spaces. Since some of these jars and vases are only a few dollars at a time it ends up being cheaper than investing in bigger tanks and I find it stimulates the fish and plants to and it’s nice to be surrounded by there sense of exploration and inspires me to explore my nature.
I use only rain water I collect and multiply the plant and aquatic life myself, it is a affordable hobby and fuels a fluidity in my music and creative process as well it is always nice to serenade this nature in a controlled space and see if it helps with some of the plant growth to oxygenate these ecosystems in these low tech tanks. As a bonus i get to test some of my musical ideas with these beautiful creatures and they are a very kind audience. My water columns and chaotic home life is my composing environment for my music it is not ideal but balances out my diet of depressing geo politics and at least it is an environment which I control and it seems to thrive with this system until I can get on the road more regularly it’s good enough. It’s also very personal which is why I don’t share this part of this art online much until now just like going for a walk in nature by yourself to feel the quiet and peace of the wildlife on a deeper level to ground and heal in solitude.
