Michigan Tech was the last place Josie intended to go. But when she visited during a scholarship opportunity her “safety school” moved from the bottom of the list to the top. The stuff family members who’d gone to Tech told her about the interesting jobs they landed and how Greek life is different here made an impression. The biggest factor in her decision? The people she met.
While she waited a year to get her bearings before joining a sorority, Josie joined the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) right away. The largest organization in the world that helps women achieve their full potential as engineers and leaders has a super friendly and active chapter (led by an amazing mentor) right here at Michigan Tech. Josie says any woman going into the STEM fields will benefit from joining because you meet a ton of people at conferences. You meet employers on campus who can help you land a co-op, internship, or full-time job. And, you’ll find friends who get you, along with the support you need on your career path.
