This is something that’s really bothered me for years now, Japan has by far the most OBNOXIOUS possible way of paying respect to voice actors! By GETTING RID OF THEIR CHARACTER FOREVER! It was frustrating enough when they used that as an excuse to not give us any new Snake codecs in Ultimate, but the part that finally drew the line for me is when they got rid of May from Pokemon because of her Japanese actor’s vocal condition! I’ve known about this for about 2 years now, and my anger towards this situation has slowly built up that I HAD to blow off some steam by making my thoughts on this public. Now, before anyone calls me heartless, I just want to make this perfectly clear. I’m not saying you shouldn’t pay respects to people suffering from a disease, it really is saddening to hear about her voice actor’s condition. I respect the people who had to suffer through these conditions. What I DON’T respect is Japan’s way of handling it! There are THOUSANDS of better AND more respectful ways to pay respects to someone without forcing your entire fanbase to suffer too! If anything, I’m pretty sure that disposing of said character forever is more likely to make fans mad about Japan’s stubbornness and oversensitivity than sad about these voice actors! Again, I do feel bad for May’s Japanese voice actor, but using that as a justification to rob us of ever seeing a beloved character ever again is just obnoxious! ! I’ll tell you what, if I was voicing a beloved character in a series, I wouldn’t want them to get rid of MY character when I die! Because I know that there would be fans of said character and I wouldn’t want the writers to force their fans to suffer. Rather I’d have them find SOMEONE ELSE to play my character! Oh, but Japan can’t do that because their writers are all spineless babies. Japanese writers. Please hear me out. There is NOTHING INSENSITIVE about replacing voice actors! Why do you think America is perfectly fine doing so when the voice actors for characters like Fillmore (Cars) and Scrooge McDuck die? That’s not disrespecting their initial voice actors, that’s simply just finding someone else! But Japan can’t see that because they are clearly unfamiliar with the phrase “Grow up!” And I bet they’re going to get rid of Mario too when his Japanese voice actor dies! (Don’t get any ideas, Japan.) Now do you see how obnoxious this whole thing is? I’d be okay with May not coming back since all of Ash’s traveling companions leave after their respective series are over, but when they bring back everyone EXCEPT her (well and Max but who cares about that brat?) it just makes May look like the most neglected character ever! This is barely any better than if the show were to kill her off and treat her death like it’s nothing! In fact I literally feel like they DID kill May off! And no, I’m not counting her brief cameo during Ash’s battle with Leon. The point is, we’ll literally never, ever, ever, ever, EVER see May again! And it’s all stupid Japan’s fault!

Edit: Just to make this clear, I am not trying to be racist against Japanese. I am getting on their case for something that they CAN control as opposed to something they CAN'T control (I mean sure they can’t control the disease, but they CAN control whether or not they get a substitute). And to those of you who are saying I'm generalizing an entire country because of a few writers, I was told that ALL Japanese writers do this.
