Presenting: all the hugs and affectionate gestures from Season 1

This is not only my first Pony video, it's my first video editing project period, as well as the first video I've ever uploaded to the Internet... (what has this show done to me!). What follows is a mini-essay of sorts containing my thoughts on the show:

1. Yes, My Little Pony is a children's cartoon supposedly only for little girls.
2. Yes the stories are simple, sometimes even cheesy.
3. So is it pathetic that adults and men in particular watch it in growing numbers? No.
4. What's really sad is that apparently scenes of characters being kind and compassionate and joyful to each other are only deemed fit to show to little girls. Perhaps it's no wonder then that the adult world is so full of all the things that have nothing to do with real happiness.

Whenever any of us watches TV, regardless of age, we are affected by what we are told, and especially by what we SEE on screen. If we see characters being violent and hateful, we absorb that. However the same thing works for love and compassion, though sadly it's far more rare to see it. MLP: FIM doesn't only TELL us about the value of compassion, it SHOWS us what compassion looks like, and that's why it's impossible not to feel happy after watching the show.

This video is a compilation of scenes in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that show characters being genuinely affectionate to one another through physical gestures, and some are simply scenes where characters are happy together. The scenes are, with only one exception, taken from the show in the order they appear.

When you watch this, ask yourself: how often do you see this level of affection in "guy" or "adult" shows? And what does that say about us as a culture and what we're teaching young men? Everyone needs love and affection, not just little girls, and I think the growth of the male fandom speaks for itself about how MLP: FIM has fed that need.

If this video is any good, I can't really take any credit for it. Credit goes out to the creators of this show for reminding us that just because might be simple enough for a child to understand, doesn't make that idea any less powerful—or important. And credit goes out to the amazingly talented and creative members of the Brony community who have poured their time and energy into restoring my faith in humanity. Perhaps we really are on the cusp of living in a world where having a kind and compassionate heart is no longer ridiculed as weakness, but recognized as true strength -- perhaps the greatest of strengths. This is my way of saying thank you to the Brony Community. /]
