In this video I explore the creative possibilities of the PMI Smoke Ninja Pro — a handheld fog device that aims to replace traditional bulky and messy fog and haze machines.

I love using this tool for its versatility, offering effects like fog, haze, steam, and my favorite, dry ice.

Whenever I introduce a creative element like this into my photography I don't just throw it into the mix, I plan out the lighting, color scheme, and how the effect is going to compliment the model. So for this beauty image, I wanted to make sure we had a neutral background and lighting that would highlight the haze/fog effect.

There are so many ways you can incorporate this into your photography to create stunning effects that go way beyond a typical haze or fog machine. The portable and ultra small footprint of the Smoke Ninja Pro make it an absolute winner, earning a spot in my bag of tricks.

💡Lighting (5 light setup)

1 & 2. Backlights: Two rim lights with one by four foot strip softboxes, each with a teal gel and grids to control light spill.

3. Main Light: Westcott optical spot with a 150mm lens to create focused slices of light on the subject's face.

4: Fill light: Medium umbrella with diffusion and a blue/cyan gel to fill shadows and add color, spilling blue light onto the background.

5. Background Light: Light on a floor stand with green and teal gels to create a gradient effect on the background.
