I haven't ridden a bicycle down this hill/street in over 15 years.
I recently purchased a new bicycle now that I'm back in the area that I grew up, so I decided to take the long way home through my childhood home and down the hill that I drove down countless times.
Bonnet Lane was most of my childhood. I have so many fond memories of riding on this stretch of road, walking my dog, hanging out with friends at all hours of the day/night, getting slurpees at the 7-11 (now an "In & Out"), buying bags of discounted Goldfish crackers from the Pepperidge Farm store (now a "Kumon Kids"), and playing wall ball on the side of the 7-11.
I can't really describe the special place this street holds in my heart, but I feel the ghosts of my past every time I drive through it.
It should be noted that the empty space towards the end of this video was once all homes. Friends I grew up with, now gone after severe floods devastated most of the street. Water was literally in the 2nd floor of houses. That makes it all the more strange to drive through now. You can still see the driveway dips on the sidewalk where every house used to stand.
I love you, Bonnet Lane. I always will.
