South African filmmaker and Newsflash host Joe Emilio shares major international success for his documentary exploring the Tygerberg Raceway land invasion and the controversial PIE Act.
After being submitted to international film festivals around the world, the documentary has officially been selected for the International Cultural Journal Awards 2026 in Ukraine and will be screened as part of the festival’s opening programme.
The documentary will also be showcased during a red carpet event at Uzhhorod Castle in Western Ukraine and featured in the Cinema in Schools programme, where it will reportedly be screened in 100 Ukrainian schools, including communities near the front lines.
In another major development, the documentary has now also been officially selected for the Mpumalanga International Film Festival in South Africa, marking one of the first major local festival recognitions for the project.
