Direction
What I wanted to do when I heard "My Dark Souls Story" is to really tell the story of Dark Souls 1,2 as best as I could. So much so that someone who was playing Dark Souls 3 first wouldn't be lost with the story or the central themes of the series. I tried to tell as much of the implied story (as well as some parts that are part of my own understanding of the Souls story) that were essential as I could; leaving out plot elements I felt were not essential to understanding the themes (like death, cycles, fire, hopelessness) and core story of the Dark Souls series. The lines I used to explained the story are a mix of my own writing and some of the famous lines from the Dark Souls series. I tried to write the narration in a way that mirrored the style of the Dark Souls expositions. While at the same time the final line "These are the stories we are told" was meant to imply that the narrator is unreliable and like everything in the souls series, the story is pieced together and everyone's part in the story is taken with a grain of salt.

Style:
Stylistically in the first half I used a parchment-style story telling similar to the Tapestry of Bayeux. Which is why I opted to use more concept art over videos if I could. The second half was a more epic, yet dark vibe. Overall though my direction was to create a trailer from the perspective of someone actually telling the Dark Souls story as if it were an old legend. The first half is more slow, to build up for the epic vibe of the second; while I also wanted the first to be more "sorrow" and the second to be more "action".

Production Notes:
This took me about a week to do in terms of actual hard editing, however the concept took me a long time. I ran between 4 different concepts for the trailer and different songs multiple times. I had a real creative roadblock, staying up long nights driving me nuts just thinking about how to make this. In my experience making fantrailers I love doing them, but I almost always do something in the style of- This was the first time I really had to make something "original". This was also my first time using after effects which, while intimidating was a lot simpler once you play around with settings. It's not EXACTLY how I wanted it, but I think I did a good job ya? Hope it gets me something lol.
