I spotted what looked like a mouse hole in my hedgerow 3 or 4 years back and put some peanuts there which had gone by a few hours later, so I followed up with a motion detecting camera. It was Hazel Dormice. I feed them every day, peanuts and dried meal worms and occasionally put a small motion detecting camera there. All the local dormice pop by to stock up their larders. The dormouse population is in serious danger, with numbers estimated to have fallen by 52% since 1995. Hazel dormouse is protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
