Q: What was the room like at the Marriott Irvine Spectrum? A: I was really impressed. The room felt very modern and stylish, and I loved that it had hardwood floors instead of carpet. The storage rack was also really functional and cool-looking. My room had two queen beds and a nice city view.
Q: What were the amenities like? Did you like the pool and gym? A: The amenities were fantastic. The gym is a two-story space with modern equipment, and I was so surprised to see they even had spinning bikes!. The pool area is beautiful, with a heated pool and plenty of beach chairs.
Q: What's the parking situation at that hotel? A: This is important to know: the hotel's main option is valet parking, which costs about $55 a day. My tip is that there's a self-parking lot connected to the hotel in the back. Q: Why do you choose to stay in Irvine instead of right in L.A.? A: For me, unless I'm going to a theme park, I almost always prefer staying in Irvine. I've just found that it's an incredibly safe and clean city, which I really appreciate, especially when I'm traveling with my family. It's a much more comfortable and relaxing "home base" than some of the busier parts of L.A..

I've found that Irvine is an excellent base for visiting Disneyland; it's often just a 20-minute drive away. However, it is not a good base if your main goal is seeing L.A. sights like Hollywood or Santa Monica. L.A. is huge, and the traffic is no joke, so you'd be looking at a 45 to 90-minute drive each way to get to those tourist spots.
