The oldest run cycles on here (From my first year at university) are about 8 years old. 8 years of animation study as told by a select few run cycles I've done over that time.
The reference shown was a Muybridge chart of a horse in motion. The archives are full of great references of a wide variety of subjects and motions including horses trotting, jumping and kicking as well as other subjects like Bison, Cats, humans, monkeys and even large and small birds. A quick goodle search of Eadweard Muybridge + query will yield great results.
Software used:
The GIMP
After Effects
Monkey Jam
Media used:
Plain paper and pencil
Music: Song of the Volga Boatmen - From incompetech.com (Kevin MacLeod)

Annotations complete.
16:9 Fail
This is not a throw guide.
Instead of my usual [verb] guide, i thought id try for something more useful that can be applied to a much wider range of actions.
By silhouette, i mean the general outline of the character. Exagerate things as much as you need for a more dynamic pose to put more power into what your character is doing.
