My anamorphic workflow // Gh5 // SLR magic anamorphic // Atomos shogun // fcpx
What’s popping beautiful people, its ya boy Joshua Martin and this is my anamorphic workflow.
Starting with the gh5
I have customized c2 to be my anamorphic mode in 24p. In order to do that, go the second camera menu, rec format, make sure you are in MOV or MP4 (LPCM).
Then go to first camera M and select the Anamorphic (4:3) mode, If your SD card can handle it, select the 4K, 422/10bit/all-I 400mbps option. Keep in mind the resolution. We’re going to come back to that.
If you want to save this option go the wrench without the C (4th menu) on page 1 select cust.set mem then chose your C option
For my c3 option, it's the exact same steps for c2 but you would have to make sure you are in the 59.94Hz in the system frequency menu to allow the 60p option.
I wish Panasonic had a 4K 422 10bit all-I option for the anamorphic 60p.
You select that and save it to your custom menu.
Now let’s get my inferno ready too. But if you don’t have an inferno or rather go handheld, make sure the desqueeze display is on.
Once’s your all plugged in, you want to desqueeze your display. My inferno already has a few options for different anamorphic squeezes, but in this camera, I am filming with a 2x lens. So I go to this menu here and look for the desqueeze option. Then boom.
But there is a difference once the camera is in 60p. Watch this, there is no option for a 4:3 desqueeze. And I have no idea why. I will atomos made some update to fix this. All you get is these small desqueeze display.
Let’s bring the footage into FCPX.
Remember I said to keep the resolution in mind. Well, I discovered that when recording to prores in the anamorphic mode to the shogun inferno, the resolution becomes 3840 x 2160 but in camera, the resolution is 3328 x 2496. Why does this matter? I actually don’t know. Like you can still plug in 6656 x 2496 and it’ll be just fine… zooms into face
If that timeline is too large, just divide the height and width by 2.
If you are using the free version of resolve you the 6k time will not work when roundtripping, you have to use a resolution just under ultra 4K so 3324 x 1248 will work just fine.
