Needle Pusher is about already knowing yourself, valuing yourself, and having confidence in your self worth, while simultaneously struggling to prove yourself to people who attempt to shut you down and assert who and what they think you are. I was commissioned by Stellar Eclipse with the prompt of living with disability, and thought that Coco Pommel would be a fascinating vessel for this concept. In the spirit of CUTIEMARKS, I reimagined her a successful seamstress and designer that lives with accessibility needs. While she need not prove herself to herself, the hostility of her boss — despite Coco’s hard work and vibrant imagination — encourages her to recognize that she faces uphill battles completely on the whim of others’ egos.
