Matthew King is on the roof terrace at Château de Chambord in France.

The Château de Chambord was constructed in the 1500s both as a royal hunting lodge for King Francis I and as an immense sculpture in the landscape of the Loire: a magnificent display of wealth, power and artistic excellence The roof boasts 365 elaborate carved stone chimneys and rooftop structures that mimic Italian Renaissance urban architecture. The Château has long been rumoured to have a connection with Leonardo da Vinci, who lived in France for the final 3 years of his life, from autumn 1516 until his death on May 2, 1519 at the age of 67, just months before the construction of Chambord began. It seems plausible that Leonardo – an expert engineer who designed many different kinds of staircase - may well have drawn the plan for the magnificent double helix staircase at the heart of the Château: a perfect work of art inside a work of art.
