Multi-ethnic. Queer. Latinx. Catholic. With a unique perspective, pop artist Gina Chavez is both beloved in her native Austin and internationally acclaimed for her effortless merging of North American pop music and Latin genres, including cumbia, reggaeton, and folk.
Chavez’s NPR Tiny Desk performance brought in more than a million views and her second album Up.Rooted topped the iTunes and Amazon Latin charts. She is also a cultural ambassador with The U.S. State Department and has performed internationally in ten different countries. Her distinct voice and its empowering message of women’s reclamation of power and autonomy is being heard by more and more people around the world.
The second year of @THEMUSCO – Online provides audiences in Orange County – and around the globe – an opportunity to go beyond the performance and learn about the creative artists, their histories and what drives their work onstage and beyond.
