Alex Murdaugh’s defense revealed during Friday’s pretrial hearing that Curtis “Eddie” Smith, a man prosecutors have connected to the Murdaugh case, allegedly failed a polygraph when asked whether he killed Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. The defense said Smith’s proffer with prosecutors was contingent on passing the test, but the state disputed characterizing the proffer as a deal. The judge ultimately ruled that the polygraph results cannot be mentioned to the jury without prior approval from the court.
