In this talk, we will show the most recent theoretical advances developed within the framework of the lattice Boltzmann method at Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) of the University of Manchester. Specifically, we will discuss about (i) collision models with enhanced stability and (ii) schemes without the evolution of populations. Their suitability for a rich set of compelling practical applications will be demonstrated, ranging from magnetohydrodynamics to the spread of epidemics.
