In September 2000, I bought my first frisbee and taught myself how to throw in a pasture next to where I lived during my first year of university.
In May 2001, my mother passed away.
In September 2001, I enrolled at Dalhousie University for my 2nd year university. After seeing a poster for the DKUT (Dal/Kings Ultimate Team), I went to my first ultimate practice and started training with the team.
Carrying on the habit of throwing in a field by myself, I spent hours at Wickwire working on my throws.
It became a way to grieve and spend time with my mom.
Fast forward to summer 2002, where I learned about MTA (Maximum Time Aloft) during practices with SPAWN (an ultimate club in Fredericton, NB). That summer I also saw my first MTA competition at the Canadian Nationals in Ottawa, Ontario.
MTA became my favourite thing to do and along with Wickwire Field, I also practiced at the Halifax Commons.
I competed in my first MTA (Self-Caught Flight) competition in 2011 at the WFDF World Overall Championships in Fort Collins, Colorado, winning bronze.
In 2013, '15, '16, '17, '19, and '22, I won gold.
I also have 10 Guinness World Records for MTA (Self-Caught Flight) on ice skates, inline skates, and with a dog (Davy Whippet).
I love MTA. It was pretty special and emotional to have some time throwing MTA on one of the fields that changed my life. Wickwire Field will always hold a special place in my heart and I look forward to continuing to throw frisbees there any chance I get!
