![[Télécom Paris Ideas] The carbon footprint of researchers in theoretical computer science and AI
Antoine Amarillis research focuses on theoretical computer science, but he also sometimes takes the side roads. For example, he is committed to the climate and points out that, in computer-related disciplines, the evaluation model for researchers is still strongly correlated with their travel to international conferences, with a high carbon footprint as a result. ![[Ideas] Intelligent wind turbines for optimised energy production
Elie Kadoche, PhD candidate at the Information Processing and Communication Laboratory at Télécom Paris, talks to us about digital technology serving the energy transition, and more specifically about the subject of his thesis on intelligent wind turbines for optimised energy production.
He was able to sum it up in three minutes, winning 3rd prize from the jury of the French national My thesis in 180 seconds competition, out of 16 finalists. He had previously won the IP Paris regional final.
He is working on control algorithms for optimising large wind farms.
In this video, he explains how the use and development of a reinforcement learning method enables wind turbines to orientate themselves in relation to the wind. [Ideas] Intelligent wind turbines for optimised energy production](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/d65dNYuDnT0/mqdefault.jpg)

![[Ideas] Innovation in chaotic encryption of infrared optical communications
In spring 2024, a research team from the LTCI laboratory at Télécom Paris, led by Télécom Paris, took up the challenge of free-space optical transmission security by demonstrating a chaos-based encryption method, and proved the applicability of this system over a distance of 30 metres in the far infrared.
The team demonstrated private optical communication in free space based on chaos synchronisation in one of the atmospheres transparency windows. The chaotic light generated by a long-wave infrared quantum cascade laser is used to conceal the transmitted message, which is then decrypted using a double quantum cascade laser, thus guaranteeing greater confidentiality. This approach has an impact on the development of private transmissions in free space beyond conventional telecommunications networks.

![[Ideas] Human-machine interaction in the ChatGPT era
At a time when generative AI is also affecting the way we converse with humans, Damien Rudaz, a doctoral student at Télécom Paris, talks to us about his research into human-robot interactions and their evaluation.
This is the subject of his thesis, which he conducted at Aldebaran Robotics, the company that created the world-famous Pepper and Nao robots. [Ideas] Human-machine interaction in the ChatGPT era](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/g9eb8G9gyg4/mqdefault.jpg)
