Okay, so yesterday I stated that the contract rumors with Mr. Anderson and TNA weren't real, because he signed a deal with them in 2010, though the details aren't public, it was assumed that it would take him until December 31st 2010. Later in the year he signed a contract extension that would take him until the end of 2015. When this deal was signed, he said that he didn't want to wrestle forever, he went public, (I believe it was on Twitter) saying this:
"If I am still wrestling after 5 years, someone shoot me."
What he was meaning by this was that he doesn't want to wrestle forever, he enjoys doing it, and likes it, but wants to have other accomplishments before he is too old and injured to do so.
So the story now-a-days seems to go something like this:
Mr. Anderson's contract ends in October, likely towards the end of the month, so he and TNA have been in talks with signing a new deal. As of yesterday he "signed a new deal."
This story is inaccurate, I know when you sign a longer deal you CAN OPT out of the contract usually after a certain percentage of it has been worked. Example, if you signed a 10 year deal, usually after60% of it has been fulfilled, it you can choose to get out of the deal or re-negotiate, this is obviously NOT always the case, but it can be a clause added in the initial contract.
Let me list the other reasons why I do not believe this story:
1. He signed a deal that would take him until the end of 2010, but had an extension later on in that year that would take him until the end of 2015, so IF his contract is done next month, that means he was with TNA for 3 years and 10 months, that seems like a really messed up contract, usually it's done in TNA with 6 months or a year, not a 10 month end date thing, you know?
2. The story then goes on and says if they cannot come to terms than his match against Bully Ray on Impact last week at No Surrender was his last match. So let me get this straight, TNA wouldn't use him for about a month, continue to pay him, and not use him at their biggest PPV of the year? That seems highly impossible.
3. As of this morning the story that Anderson signed a new deal was recalled, apparently he and TNA have NOT come to terms as of yet.
This whole thing reminds me of the Matt Morgan story, when he was kept off TV everyone, and I mean EVERYONE believed he was returning to WWE, that he was released, it looked like him on the teaser trailer for WWE 13, and since he was saying things on Twitter about him "leaving" TNA and he "making changes" people thought it was legit, not a work.
Look what happened, he didn't go to WWE, he was still employed by TNA, he came back for a couple months aligned with Joey Ryan, THEN he asked for his release, the reason is simple. His wife was pregnant, he wanted more money, more insurance for his family, so he left.
Yes he wasn't exactly too happy with TNA overall, HOWEVER TNA made him, he had very little skill and talent when he came into TNA, and almost NO ONE wanted to give him a shot, both fans and other talent alike.
I knew he didn't leave when he was off TV because he too signed a 5 year deal that I think was going to take him to 2015 or 2016, I was one of the first reporting on that story, and yet a couple years later, no one remembered it, even with proof.
In 2010 and 2011 TNA signed a lot of wrestlers to long term deals, all were 5 year deals:
AJ Styles
Chris Sabin
Matt Morgan
Mr. Anderson
Also in 2010 they signed Robert Roode to a 3 year deal that would take him until spring 2013, which was accurate.
I believe with AJ Styles could have new negations in 2013, and if both parties couldn't come to terms, than he could leave his contract. I also believe that Sabin's contract was also altered because of his 2 year absence due to injury, however I don't know what that looks like.
