The MPAA almost gave Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice the R Rating because of the film's central idea, a fight between Batman and Superman.
The second film in the now-defunct DCEU, Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, which debuted to mixed reviews and performed below projections at the box office worldwide, even though it brought in over $870 million.
Ben Affleck's Batman made a poor first impression, which put the DCEU on a downhill trajectory from which it would take a long time to recover.
