The Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183/173dB, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in October 1773, shortly after the success of his opera seria Lucio Silla. It was supposedly completed October 5, a mere two days after the completion of his Symphony No. 24, although this remains unsubstantiated. Its first movement is widely known as the opening music in Miloš Forman's film Amadeus. The symphony is laid out in standard classical form:
1. Allegro con brio, 4/4 in G minor
2. Andante, 2/4 in E-flat major
3. Menuetto & Trio, 3/4 in G minor, Trio in G major
4. Allegro, 4/4 in G minor.
With its wide-leap melodic lines and brisk musical subjects, this symphony is characteristic of the Sturm und Drang style. It shares certain features with other Sturm und Drang symphonies of this time, and is likely inspired from Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 39 which is likewise in G minor. The opening Mannheim rocket (a rising arpeggiated sequence) was quoted by Beethoven in his first Piano Sonata as the principal subject of the first movement.

In a letter to a fellow Freemason Michael von Puchberg, Mozart wrote meanwhile I am working on six easy piano sonatas for Princess Friederike and six quartets for the King. K.576 was the only sonata completed. Despite Mozarts intention for the sonata to be easy, it is extremely difficult to play. The sonata would also be Mozarts last.

The Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K. 448 is a piano work composed in 1781 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at 25 years of age. It is written in strict sonata-allegro form, with three movements. The sonata was composed for a performance he would give with fellow pianist Josephine von Aurnhammer. Mozart composed this in the galant style, with interlocking melodies and simultaneous cadences. This is one of his only formal compositions written exclusively for two pianos. This sonata was also used in the scientific study that tested the theory of the Mozart Effect, suggesting that classical music increases brain activity more positively than other kinds of music. The sonata is written in three movements,
1. Allegro con spirito
2. Andante
and 3. Molto Allegro.
The first movement begins in D major, and sets the tonal center with a strong introduction. The two pianos divide the main melody for the exposition, and when the theme is presented both play it simultaneously. Mozart spends little time in the development introducing a new theme unlike most sonata forms, and begins the recapitulation, repeating the first theme. The entire second movement is played Andante, in a very relaxed pace. The melody is played with both pianos, but there is no strong climax in this movement. It is written in a strict ABA form. Molto Allegro begins with a galloping theme. The cadences used in this movement are similar to those in Mozarts Rondo alla Turca. According to the British Epilepsy Organization, research has suggested that Mozarts K 448 can have the Mozart effect, in that listening to the piano sonata improved spatial reasoning skills and reduce the number of seizures in people with epilepsy. Apart from another Mozart Concerto, K 488, only one other piece of music has been found to have a similar effect, a song by the Greek composer Yanni, entitled Acroyali/Standing In Motion, which is featured on his album Yanni Live at the Acropolis. It was determined to have the Mozart effect, by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine because it was similar to Mozarts K 448 in tempo, structure, melodic and harmonic consonance and predictability.

The F Major sonata was written in two parts hence, the two Köchel numbers. The Rondeau finale was originally written as a separate piece as K. 494. A few months later, the first two movements were written. At his publisher Hoffmeisters request, he joined K. 494 to them to form a three-movement sonata, referred to as K. 533, adding a twenty-seven measure cadenza to the Rondo making use of lower registers of the piano not heard in the rest of the movement.

The Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra in E-flat major, K. 364 (320d), was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
At the time of its composition in 1779, Mozart was on a tour of Europe that included Mannheim and Paris. The compositions complex orchestral dynamics reflects the increasing technical competence of the European orchestra of that era and was strongly influenced by Mozarts visit to the Mannheim court orchestra during his European tour of 1777 to 1779. Mozart had been experimenting with the sinfonia concertante genre and this work can be considered his most successful realization in this cross-over genre between symphony and concerto. The piece is scored in three movements for solo violin, solo viola, two oboes, two horns, and strings, the latter including two sections of violas.
The solo viola part is written in D major instead of E flat major, and the instrument tuned a semitone sharper (scordatura technique), to give a more brilliant tone. This technique is uncommon when performed on the modern viola and is used mostly in performance on original instruments.
It has also been arranged for cello in place of the viola part.

This Sinfonia Concertante has influenced many arrangers to use these themes. In 1808 an uncredited arrangement of the piece for string sextet Grande Sestetto Concertante was published by Sigmund Anton Steiner. All six parts are divided equally among the six players; it is not presented as soloists with accompaniment.
The opening two melodic phrases of The Windmills of Your Mind, a song from the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair, were adopted from the opening of the second movement of the Sinfonia Concertante.
The Sinfonia Concertante was mentioned in William Styrons 1979 novel Sophies Choice; after a stranger molests Sophie on the subway, she hears the Sinfonia Concertante on the radio, which brings back memories of her childhood in Krakow and snaps her out of her depression.
Variations on the slow second movement were used for the soundtrack to the 1988 Peter Greenaway film Drowning by Numbers by composer Michael Nyman. The original piece is also heard after each of the drownings in the screenplay.
The American composer and bassist Edgar Meyer was so interested in this work that in 1995 he wrote a double concerto for double bass, cello and orchestra that, while very different in style, closely mirrors the structure of Mozarts Sinfonia concertante.
The andante movement of this piece was featured in Nuri Bilge Ceylans 2002 film Uzak.

Symphony No. 6 in F major, K. 43, was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1767. According to Alfred Einstein in his 1937 revision of the Köchel catalogue, the symphony was probably begun in Vienna and completed in Olomouc, a Moravian town to which the Mozart family fled to escape a Viennese smallpox epidemic. The symphony is in four movements, and is Mozarts first in the key of F. Its initial performance was at Brno on 30 December 1767. The autograph of the score is today preserved in the Biblioteka Jagiellońska in Kraków.
The instrumentation for the first performance was: 2 flutes; 2 oboes; 2 horns; bassoon; strings and keyboard continuo. The flutes are used in the second movement in place of the oboes. For the first time in a symphony, Mozart uses two obligatory viola parts. This is Mozarts first four-movement symphony, in which he introduces the Minuet and Trio for the first time, a feature common in many of his symphonies thereafter. The movements are:
1. Allegro, 4/4
2. Andante, 2/4
3. Menuetto and Trio, 3/4
4. Allegro, 6/8.
The Andante movement uses a theme from Mozarts early Latin opera Apollo et Hyacinthus, K. 38, in which muted violins sing over pizzicato seconds and divided violas, a ravishing effect. The symphony was included in a concert arranged by Count von Schrattenbach, brother of the Archbishop of Salzburg, given by the Mozart family on 30 December 1767 at the Taverna in Brno. A local clergyman recorded: I attended a musical concert in a house in the city known as the Taverna, at which a Salzburg boy of eleven years and his sister of fifteen years, accompanied on various instruments by inhabitants of Brno, excited everyones admiration.

The Piano Sonata in F major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, K. 332/300k, was written at the same time as the Piano Sonata, K. 330 and Piano Sonata, K. 331 (Alla turca), Mozart numbering them as a set from one to three. They were once believed to have been written in the late 1770s in Paris, but it is now thought more likely that they date from 1783. Vienna has been suggested as a possible place of composition, with others believing the sonatas were written during a visit to Salzburg where Mozart introduced his wife, Constanze, to his father, Leopold. All three sonatas were published in Vienna in 1784. The sonata is in three movements and has a conventional structure:
1. Allegro - in sonata form
2. Adagio - a slow movement in the key of B flat major
3. Allegro assai - in sonata form
A typical performance takes about 18 minutes (25 minutes with repeats).
The first movement, in sonata form, offers a classic example of a fake-out of an essential expositional closure half-cadence postmedial caesura extending the secondary theme zone and deferring the essential expositional closure to the next perfect authentic cadence. The second movement (adagio) is in ABA form. In the autograph, the return of the principal theme (measures 21 ff.) is essentially a literal repeat of its initial presentation. In the earliest printed editions, however, it is considerably elaborated.
The rapid finale is in 6/8 time. While it starts out with a forte chord and passagework, it concludes with a pianissimo cadence.

The six string quartets, K. 155-160, were composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in late 1772 and early 1773. Because they were composed in Milan while he was working on his opera Lucio Silla, they are popularly known as the Milanese Quartets. Before this set was composed, Mozart had written one earlier string quartet (K. 80 in 1770), so these six quartets are ordinally numbered from No. 2 to No. 7. The quartets are written in a plan of keys of D-G-C-F-B♭-E♭ following the circle of fifths.
All six quartets have only three movements. Four of the quartets (K. 156-159) have slow movements in the minor mode. The finales are generally lightweight, usually minuets or rondos.

A Musical Joke (in German: Ein musikalischer Spaß) K. 522, (Divertimento for two horns and string quartet) is a composition by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; the composer entered it in his Verzeichnis aller meiner Werke (Catalogue of all my Works) on June 14, 1787. The music is intentionally written to be funny, being liberally sprinkled with obtrusively clumsy, mechanical and over-repetitive composition, together with passages evidently designed to mimic the effects of inaccurate notation and inept performance. Commentators have opined that the pieces purpose is satirical—that [its] harmonic and rhythmic gaffes serve to parody the work of incompetent composers though Mozart himself is not known to have revealed his actual intentions.The piece consists of four movements, using forms shared with many other classical divertimenti:
1. Allegro. (In sonata form)
2. Menuetto and Trio.
3. Adagio cantabile.
4. Presto. (Sonata rondo form)
Nevertheless, the music has potential to appeal to the average audience of that time as a comedy, including:
-use of asymmetrical phrasing, or not phrasing by four measure groups, at the beginning of the first movement, which is very uncommon for the classical period,
-use of secondary dominants where subdominant chords are just fair,
-the use of discords in the French horns, satirizing the incompetence of the copyist, or the hornist grabbing the wrong crook,
-use of a whole tone scale in the violinists high register, probably to imitate the players floundering at the high positions.
The piece is also notable for the earliest known use of polytonality, creating the gesture of complete collapse with which the finale ends. This may be intended to produce the impression of grossly out-of-tune string playing, since the horns alone conclude in the movements tonic key: the lower strings behave as if the tonic has suddenly become B flat, while the violins and violas switch to G major, A major and E flat major respectively. Some theorists believe that A Musical Joke is a parody of works by clumsy composers of Mozarts time. With such an assumption, one might find some points of the score humorous, such as the more elementary developments of the theme, where the poor composer might feel the agony that he/she had to proceed with the development. Other theorists disagree with that view, saying that perhaps Mozart used parody and comedy as an excuse to try things that at the time were not in practice; the piece would then be intended in a more serious tone than so advertised but only for the composer himself.
The use of asymmetrical phrasing, whole-tone scales, and multitonality is quite foreign to music of the classical era. However, these techniques were later revisited by early 20th century composers like Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky, who were searching for a new musical language. In this later context, these conventions were seen as legitimate new techniques in serious music. In Mozarts time, however, these non-classical elements give the piece its comedy and express the composers sense of musical humor.
Ironically, A Musical Joke is the first piece entered in Mozarts list of works following the death of his father Leopold on May 28. The established English title A Musical Joke is a poor rendering of the German original: as Fritz Spiegl pointed out, Spaß does not strongly connote the jocular—for which the word Scherz would normally be required. In Spiegls view, a more accurate translation would have been Some Musical Fun. Perpetuum mobile: Ein musikalischer Scherz op. 257, a polka by Johann Strauss II is likewise (and more correctly) translated as A Musical Joke. In a modernised version by Waldo de los Rios, the opening of the finale of A Musical Joke was used for many years as the theme tune to the BBCs Horse of the Year Show.
