Recorded in 2024 in Vienna, this video captures a behind-the-scenes look at the unique collaboration between the Orpheum Foundation and Alpha Classics. Together, they embark on a passionate recording project: a complete series of Mozart’s solo concertos performed by the most promising young soloists of our time.
For over thirty years, the Swiss-based Orpheum Foundation has supported young musicians at the highest level—not through competitions or scholarships, but via a highly selective committee process. By connecting emerging talents with world-renowned conductors and orchestras, Orpheum provides a springboard toward international careers. Alumni include acclaimed artists such as Yuja Wang, Renaud Capuçon, Alice Sara Ott, and Vilde Frang.
In 2022, the foundation partnered with Alpha Classics to launch the Next Generation Mozart Soloists series, a long-term recording project featuring laureates of the foundation performing Mozart’s concertos. This year, Alpha Classics releases the 12th volume in the series, which includes Piano Concertos No.9 and No.12, alongside the Violin Concerto No. 2.
The featured soloists are American pianist Evren Ozel—recently awarded the Bronze Medal at the 2025 Van Cliburn Competition—and violinist Jan Mracek. Our team traveled to Vienna to document the recording sessions for the piano concertos, offering a rare glimpse into the creative process in the studio.
Blending interview and documentary, this video marks the launch of a new editorial format for Qobuz: a fully immersive journey into the making of a classical recording, from the first notes to the final take.
