For memory keeping:
This was recorded on the 8th, 9th and 10th of November 2020. We were moving after a decade living in London, UK, to Spain in the middle of a pandemic with 2 cats.
We book our trip at the beginning of the year, then a lot o things happened as you may know...
One of the cats had surgery a couple of times, which was terrifying and then the pandemic hit hard. We were in lockdown, loss of income, and everything we tried to book kept getting cancelled. We tried to find alternative routes to Spain, as a pet friendly cabin on a ferry was impossible to get. So we thought we could do the whole trip by car crossing through France, we even booked an airb&b in Bordeaux, and then the borders closed around Europe (thank fck! it would have been a nightmare), all our reservations got cancelled again.
At this point we were freaking out, we couldn't postpone the trip for next year, all the laws about traveling, including pets, were probably changing as a consequence of Brexit and we didn't want to risk it.
So we kept trying to book something and kept getting cancelled until we got lucky and were able to book a van and a ferry.
This was the point of no return, two months before the trip we had to give notice to our landlord to give up our flat. Weeks before our departure covid cases started to rise again, we were back on lockdown. We were really stressed out, panicking. We didn't know if we were able to go until the same day of departure, since the rental company wouldn't assure us if they would be opening their stores.
I can honestly say this was my most stressful experience traveling but in the end the ship was beautiful, was very safe, the trip went smoothly... until we had about 10km to arrive at our new home (after driving for 8h)... Of course! We were stopped by the Spanish police suggesting we shouldn't be moving at this time... I guess we can all agree on that.
