How do you move a historical home across the country? During the fall of 2023, the Jackson Home was carefully deconstructed in Selma, Alabama and was prepared to move to its new location in Michigan. In late 2023, the Jackson Home made a 1,059-mile journey to a storage facility in New Hudson, Michigan, while a new foundation was prepared in Greenfield Village.

In August of 2024, the two halves of the Jackson Home made their final journey to The Henry Ford. They were joined together and placed in their new forever home in the Porches and Parlors district of Greenfield Village.

This video is a glimpse of the journey from Selma, Alabama to Dearborn, Michigan

A special thank you goes out to the countless staff from The Henry Ford, and our trusted partners, who made this impressive feat possible. We thank Jawana Jackson for choosing The Henry Ford to steward her family home and to honor the stories of the Civil Rights Movement.
