The plot premise: An astronaut is killed on reentry to Earth, but his body is seeded with rapidly gestating aliens.
CCC Movie Review: The acting is, as you'd expect, delightfully hammy, and unintentionally hysterical. But the real star of the show, is the alien creature itself. Dubbed the "Blood Beast," it's a hodgepodge of spare parts and imagination. The costume was mostly recycled from another Roger Corman film; Teenage Cave Man (1958). With its jerky movements and ludicrously oversized teeth, it's a fearsomely funny creature, like a giant, demented porcupine on steroids, it has to be seen to be believed.
With a budget of about $68,000, the film was shot over seven days. Produced by exploitation filmmaker Roger Corman and his brother Gene Corman, it was one of the first films directed by Bernard L. Kowalski (28) and was written by first-time screenwriter Martin Varno (21) who took six weeks to write the space-race inspired script, known by the working title "Creature from Galaxy 27".
This 50's flick incorporates all the charmingly campy special effects, you would expect from a Roger Corman creature feature, and it's an unforgettable dose of kitschy fun. A true cult classic that deserves a spot in every self-respecting monster-movie fan's collection.
