Stunt coordinator, armorist, and former NYPD officer Scott Coscia takes Robin Meade behind the scenes and explains how weapons are handled when he is overseeing firearms on a movie set.
Coscia explains how he uses a plastic weapon called a "red gun" during rehearsals so that when an actor is rehearsing a scene, he or she cannot accidentally fire. Alec Baldwin was reportedly practicing drawing a real gun that was being used as a prop when it went off, killing one crew member and injuring another, on the set of the movie "Rust." Coscia was not on that set and is basing his statements on what he's heard and seen about the accident.
According to the entertainment industry blog "The Wrap," the weapon Baldwin was using may have been used by the movie crew for "target practice" with live ammunition during downtime on the set. Coscia says "live ammo and blanks shouldn't be in the same zip code" when it comes to movie production.
