“The cop comes down, we roll down the windows and he’s like, ‘Smells like a marijuana factory in here.’ The jail time that I had to serve was a 24-hour mandatory minimum. It costs money to go to jail. It’s like the shittiest hotel ever.
They strip search you, it’s freezing, all the lights are on and buzzing like fluorescent lights, you never know what type of day anything it is. Everything in there is designed to fuck you up. There’s like 24 women in a place where there’s only 18 beds.
This girl wakes up. She is total ‘white-power girl’ - she has a swastika on her neck. She sees me and I’m obviously ethnically ambiguous, right, and she just gets all up and she’s just like, ‘Are you black or are you fucking Mexican?’ and I was like, ‘I’m Indian, but not like Native American, but, yeah, doesn’t matter. My dad’s white..?’ Like - just kinda slip that in.
She did not kick my ass. It was only 24 hours and like a super surreal experience. It’s just ultimately, to me, tragic how we spend all of our law enforcement dollars enforcing problems that aren’t really problems.” -- Mouse E., #LivesofWomen
